By Stephen Purvis, Chairman, Policy North
Skills Minister Nick Boles today praised the creation of Policy North, an independent think tank based in the North East of England.
The Minister was speaking during a skills discussion hosted by the Think Tank at SGP Technology in Newcastle upon Tyne.
Policy North are a leading voice in both the Northern Powerhouse and devolution agendas.
Mr Boles said: “The creation of a Think Tank dedicated to issues in the North is a very welcome development. Given the devolution agenda, we are seeing more decisions being made locally and Policy North can play a real role in influencing that."
Mr Boles was joined by Policy North Chairman Stephen Purvis, Advisory Board Members Ian Baggett and Roy Sandbach, along with Bob Paton and representatives from Newcastle's UTC steering group.
Chairman of Policy North Stephen Purvis said "It was great to welcome Nick to the North East and host the skills discussion. It is vital that the North East has a strong link to policy makers and that issues in the region are given a fair hearing.
We are proud to be the only think tank exclusively focused on issues affecting the North East. Our research and policy discussions help produce effective policy solutions that shape the debate on the region’s social and economic future."
